If one window is foggy, do I need to replace all of them?
No. Each double pane window has its own sealed glass unit, so only the foggy one needs new glass, and it goes into your existing frame. Windows installed at the same time often age at a similar pace, though, so it is worth checking the others when we come to measure the first one.

Why one window fails first
Seals in the same house do not fail on a schedule. The window that takes the afternoon sun, sits under a dripping gutter or has a sill that holds water usually goes first. Quality matters too: the NFRC consumer guide notes that insulating glass failure rates differ greatly depending on the quality of seal systems. For what wears seals out, read how long double pane windows last.
What to check on your other windows
- A faint haze between the panes that will not wipe off from either side
- Fog on cold mornings that clears by the afternoon
- White spots or streaks on the inside faces of the glass
If you find more than one, we measure them together on the same visit, and you choose what to do now and what to watch. See how foggy window repair works, or what a full window replacement involves.
